Innovative Learner

This semester has been full of new learning and full of challenging tasks. However, throughout the semester I have been feeling like I have made huge progress as a innovative learner. I have felt myself getting more comfortable with the idea of trying new things. I believe that everyone has their own idea of how innovation in learning looks like. I believe that it looks like trying new things. I also believe that it steps outside our comfort zones as learners. Several times throughout the semester I have been assigned to do things that I did not necessary want to do otherwise. However, I am glad for those challenges because I have learned to try new things because it made me realize I have different ways of learning that help me.

For instance, when I first started learning how to blog I was not so sure about it. I didn’t know anything about it and it was all new to me. The more I have worked with it I have found that I really enjoy blogging. In the classroom I think it would be a great way to stay in touch with parents and use in other ways around the classroom. I think that it is important to have the students use this technology tools at an earlier age. Like Couros’s said, ” The more I dig into the topic, the more I believe that this should be the norm in education.  Innovation is not something new to education, but it is something that we can do better.” I could not agree more. We need to to make it the norm in the classroom. We need to make our students realize their potential and have innovative learning everyday.

With that being said, we have learned some many things that sometimes we need to unlearn to be better learners. We have to understand that everyday we are still learning with our students. Like Richardson said, “We need to unlearn the idea that we are the sole content experts in the classroom, because we can now connect our kids to people who know far more than we do about the material we’re teaching.” We are still learning with our students, we have to let them know we are still learning too. The Unlearning Curve had so many great things to offer that I always want to keep in my back pocket.

This semester has taught me so much. I honestly did not know what it meant to be a innovative learner or teacher. I know understand them both and I have to make sure to instill that into my future students.
